Welcome to the Shinigami Academy. This is a place for those brave souls in Rukongai that wish to rise above themselves, and recieve Shinigami training, provided they pass the entrance tests for the potential strength of their Soul Sleep and Chain Link, as well as a test to see if the Spirit is mentally fit to become a Shinigami.
The duration of this course is six years, during which the students have free access in both Rukongai and the Academy, though permission slips will still need to be signed by the staff before they are allowed in other sections of Seireitei as well, generally accompanied by a teacher during a tour to keep them from losing their way back.
At the end of your studies, you will be able to call out a zanpaktou of your own rather than the Asauchi you will be using, have at least basic knowledge on Shinigami Divisions and Ranks, Demon Arts and hand-to-hand combat and have experience in fighting alone as well as in groups, reflecting different mission objectives. You will be familiar with the various types of Hollows, as well as know about the spiritually aware races of the Human World.
After having passed your final exams, you will either be hand picked by a Division or apply for one, after which you will be granted the rank of Unseated and the priviledges that come with being a full Shinigami, ready to become the Spirits' sword and shield in guiding them to the safer haven that is Rukongai. Again, we welcome you, students, to the rest of your afterlives.
